Dental veneers are a thin piece of porcelain that is used to recreate the natural look of teeth. It also provides strength comparable to natural tooth enamel. They are made custom for each person to perfectly match the contours of the original enamel on the tooth.
Dental veneers are considered an alternative and less intrusive option when compared to crowns or braces. Veneers can be used to correct small misalignments as well as close small gaps. They are also effective as a cosmetic solution that enhances the brightness of the teeth. It helps to straighten the smile and correct issues like a chipped tooth, fractures or discoloration.
Porcelain veneers are the most popular and most common style. Porcelain is preferable due to its ability to match the color of the tooth and because it can last for anywhere from 10 to 20 years.
The process usually involves two or more visits, depending on the fabrication of the veneer. After cleaning the tooth and establishing the needed shape for the veneer, a small amount of enamel is removed to make space for the veneer. An impression is made, and temporary veneers are placed on the tooth. One the final veneer is created, the temporary veneer can be removed, and the porcelain veneer can be put in place. Because of our in-house CAD/CAM technology, we can create dental veneers in just one appointment!
Proper oral hygiene is helpful for the longevity of veneers. Brush and floss them like normal teeth and avoid stain-inducing foods like coffee and red wine. Veneers will have to be replaced at some point, but taking care of them can make them last as long as possible.
